Prints by Gerhard Richter

Picturing things, taking a view, is what makes us human; art is making sense and giving shape to that sense.”
Gerhard Richter (born 1932) is a German visual artist and one of the most famous abstract artists of the 21st century.  He is considered to be one of the most ground breaking in the history of German art.

During the span of his career he has ceaselessly interrogated the limits of representation, the nature of perception and the operations of visual cognition. Variously evoking something of Rothko’s exuberance of transformative color, Pollock’s instigation of autonomous composition, and de Kooning’s transferal of the figural to the abstract, Richter’s abstraction is ultimately without comparison.

Originally training in a realist style at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, Richter later developed an appreciation for the more progressive work of his American and European contemporaries. As an artist it is hard to categorize Richter as part of a distinct movement in art history. He worked alongside many later twentieth century movements in quick succession which include Abstract Expressionism, Pop art Minimal and Conceptualism.

In 2014 Gerhard Richter started making prints with HENI Productions. The purpose of this collaboration is to produce high-quality facsimile objects and reproductions of Richter’s art. These numbered prints are made under Richter’s direction and approval.

Flow P15 and Flow P16, are both printed from the 2013 Flow paintings and adhere firmly to his artistic stylistic formula. Richter’s Flow works are mesmerizing gestural currents of enamel paint that have been frozen in motion at the moment.

His prodigious artistic output has earned unparalleled international acclaim, and over the course of a fifty-year career his work has been honored with numerous retrospectives by the most prestigious institutions. In October 2012 , Richter’s Abstraktes Bild set an auction record price for a painting by a living artist at $34 million. This was further exceeded in February 2015 when his painting sold for $44.52 million in London at Sotheby’s.
